Reading the Roaring Twenties

Our Teen Trendsetters read VENOMOUS KISS by Fiona Paul this month. VENOMOUS KISS is a historical romance set in Renaissance Venice, so we asked them about their favorite historical time periods! Check out Trendsetter Alexandria’s post below.

Reading the Roaring Twenties

Let’s admit it. Traveling back in time is about as awesome as it gets. The good thing about books? Well you can basically transport yourself into any time period or place in the comfort of your own reading nook. It’s a win-win right? I’m about to introduce you to the most interesting and wanderlust-worthy time period in history… The Roaring Twenties.

Who wouldn’t want to drink and party all day and night without a care in the world? To a time in history when wearing a short sequined dress and carrying a cane in public was socially acceptable. That’s why the 1920’s Great Gatsby time period is one I’d desperately love to live in.

Sadly modern-day scientists haven’t come up with a working time machine. That means no traveling back to the 1920’s or becoming a flapper girl just yet. Fortunately for you with these books, you won’t need a time machine. Keep in mind that there aren’t many books that take place in this wonderful time period. *sad face*

    1. The Diviners by Libba Bray

Think of this book as 1920’s era meets magic, paranormal and a murder mystery. Libba Bray brings out the best of the time period’s culture, but also introduces a freaky serial killer that likes to whistle creepily and stalk his victims in the dark. I absolutely loved this book. It was a perfect mix of paranormal and historical fiction.

2. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The title of this book says it all. Considered as a classic by many, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s highlights the Age of Jazz. Although I haven’t read this novel yet, it promises only the most ideal interpretation of the time period and late nights of that era.

3. Vixen by Jillian Larkin

Vixen delves more into the flapper girl lifestyle of the time period. As glamorous and affluent as it sounds, being a flapper girl in the 1920’s is no easy task. A sexy and romantic series set in one of the most exciting time periods in history, this book discovers the thrilling, yet dangerous life of women in the Roaring Twenties.

Now that you know about my favorite time period, I want to know which period in history you prefer reading about!
